CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Evan Sabahnur "Genesis"
SERIES: Wolverine and the X-Men/Uncanny X-Force
CANON POINT: Uncanny X-Force #34
LOSS: His ability to fly. Due to Evan's powers, he's capable of manifesting just about any super power he can imagine, but due to the way he was raised by Fantomex, he has a particular attachment to "Superman"-type powers, particularly flight. No matter how he tries to go about it (direct flight, rocket boosters, wings, super-jumping) he won't be able to fly.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Evan is a character in whom the old "Nature versus Nurture" debate is taken to its most literal. Evan is a clone of Apocalypse, one of the most powerful, and most evil mutant villains ever faced in Marvel Comics. He was created from the DNA of the previous Apocalypse, who had been "reincarnated" in the form of an innocent-looking child, and was gestated in a maturation chamber in "The World", a pocket dimension within the "Age of Apocalypse" alternate timeline. He was created by Fantomex, an occasional ally of the X-Men/X-Force, as a means of atonement for all of the evils he'd done in the name of peace, and was "raised" in a virtual-reality simulation of a small Kansas farm.

This method of creation, as well as Evan's knowledge of his heritage, as a result of having the truth revealed to him by Daken, has led to some confusion and anger on Evan's part, causing him to question both himself, and the intentions of the people who have been supporting him (Fantomex, the X-Men) . Despite his confusion, however, Evan shows himself to be loyal to the X-Men, or at the very least predisposed to doing the "right thing" when a complicated choice is put in front of him. Prior to this, he showed curiosity both in evolutionary theory and psychology, as well as a desire to be a "true hero" and use the tremendous power at his disposal to help people. He has a particular fascination, in line with his predecessor, with Darwinism and the Nature versus Nurture debate, and is shown to be a very fast learner, able to learn and retain information presented to him much quicker than his classmates in the Jean Grey School.

For the most part, Evan shows a calm, friendly demeanor, but has a few very specific berserk buttons. If you were to insult Kansas in his presence, for example, or threaten innocent people, Evan wouldn't hesitate to use his powers to subdue the offender. He also bristles at nicknames such as "Kid Apocalypse" as he wants to distance himself from the association with the notorious super-villain, despite holding some curiosity for his predecessor. He shows a particular attachment to people like himself, who struggle with their identity as mutants, as shown in his early friendship with the reincarnated Warren Worthington III, now known as "Angel", who had previously been Apocalypse's Horseman of Death. He is also shown to have a small crush on Idie Okonkwo, one of the "Five Lights", being one of the five new mutants discovered after M-Day. He's shown having extended contact with Quentin Quire, despite the fact that Quire dislikes him, Evan seems to consider Quentin a friend, and is one of the few people immune to Quire's mental manipulation. Evan has a very black-and-white view of good and evil, showing open dislike for Daken and the Brotherhood of Mutants, which remains even after having his faith in Fantomex and the X-Men challenged by the revelation of his origins.

ABILITIES: Evan is an Omega-level mutant, capable of manipulating the molecular structure of his body, allowing him to manipulate his own cellular structure, endowing him with shapeshifting to a high degree, and endowing him with the ability to literally become whatever he wants. This is further augmented with a suit of Celestial-made armor, allowing him to interface with machines and computers, and shielding him from telepathic manipulation. Evan is most commonly shown firing beams of destructive energy from his eyes, or a wave of energy omnidirectionally from his body, and shapshifting his arms and legs to various sizes for the purposes of physical aggression or intimidation.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Evan shook his head, trying to clear the confusion from his mind courtesy of Daken and Sabretooth. He knew who he was, even if his whole childhood had been a lie, there had been a good reason why Fantomex had created him, why Wolverine had taken him in. He could be a hero, he knew that, but he couldn't bring himself to do what Daken and Sabretooth had demanded of him to prove he was a hero. He couldn't kill someone, and he wasn't even sure if that was a bad thing or not. Getting to his feet, Evan noticed he was still wearing the Celestial Armor that Daken had given him, one of Apocalypse's original suits, according to its provider. He hated to admit it, but wearing the armor made him feel good, it made him feel powerful, like nothing could stop him. He wasn't even sure he could take it off, even if he'd wanted to.

Checking his surroundings, Evan thought for a moment that he might have been back at the school, but the lack of psychic traffic, or the presence of Janitor Toad at his feet made him think otherwise. Curious, he began to walk. He wasn't sure where he was going, but just standing where he was wasn't going to get him any answers. That's when he notices the book at his feet, the name "Evan Sabahnur" embossed on its cover, writing magically appearing on its pages even as he stood there watching it, and he knows he's definitely not in Kansas anymore.

FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE: I'm still not sure that this place isn't some kind of illusion, but...I have to admit, I like this place. It reminds me of the school, but there's no Quentin lingering over my shoulder calling me "Kid Apocalypse", and no Kubark trying to copy off of my homework before ethics class starts. Eating meals not prepared by Professor Doop is kind of nice too. I mean...not that he isn't a good cook, but...I'm not sure that he knows how to cook things meant for human consumption. I miss Idie though, and Broo. I kind wish they could come here, I bet they'd love it!

INTENT: I've always had a fascination with the Apocalypse character in general, as well as characters related to him (as evidenced by my playing Chamber and En Sabah Nur previously), and I think this incarnation of Apocalypse could be interesting to have at the castle. Unlike before, his personality is a little more defined, and he has a definite desire to be a hero, going against his genetic legacy.
